Privacy and terms

What Almanac is

Almanac: Reading Stats is a free hobby project: a plugin for e-readers running CrossPoint, and this website. Together they show how much you read. Almanac is not affiliated with CrossPoint, CrossInk or Xteink.

Almanac is in beta and early access. Features may change, break or disappear, and stats may be lost.

Privacy first

Almanac is anonymous. There is no account, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number. We collect only what your stats need, and they are yours alone. This website remembers your sign-in on your device, uses no ads or cookies, and counts visits anonymously.

What we collect

After each reading session, your reader sends:

  • the book's file name and folder, and an identifier of the book file
  • when you started reading and for how long
  • where in the book you started and stopped

Your stats also keep your time zone and language, so they show in your time and language.

That's all. We don't collect the contents of your books, your notes, your location or anything else from your reader.

Website visits

To see how this website is used, it counts visits with Umami, which runs on our own server. It records:

  • which pages you open and which website brought you here
  • your browser, operating system, type of device, screen size, language and country
  • which buttons you use, like signing in, showing a chart as a table or downloading your data
  • whether you are signed in and whether your reader has sent any reading yet

It never records which books you read or anything from your stats. It uses no cookies, doesn't follow you to other websites and doesn't store your IP address: it only works out your country from it.

How it's protected

  • Your stats are tied to a random key, not to you. Only your reader and the browsers you sign in with hold it, and we keep it in a form that can't be turned back into the key.
  • Sign-in codes work once and expire within minutes.
  • In Settings you see every connected reader and browser, and can disconnect any of them, for example a lost reader.
  • Connections to Almanac are encrypted.
  • Anyone holding your reader can see your stats on it and sign in to them on the web, so treat it like your phone. On a shared computer, sign out when you're done.

Who sees your data

Nobody but you. We never sell, rent, share or show your data to anyone, and we never use it for ads. We look at stored data only when we need to keep the service running or fix a problem.

Like any website, Almanac runs at a hosting provider that handles technical data, such as IP addresses, to deliver it. We don't use that data to identify you.

How long we keep it

We keep your stats until you delete them or Almanac shuts down. To delete them, open Settings on the web and choose Delete my stats. Everything goes at once, and your reader and browsers are signed out. You can also download all your sessions there as a spreadsheet file (CSV). A reader or browser that hasn't been used for a year is signed out on its own. Once none is left, nobody can open your stats anymore, so we delete them.

Your own risk

Almanac is provided as is, free of charge and without any warranty. You use it at your own risk. We are not liable for lost or wrong stats, problems with your reader or any other damage. We may change, pause or end Almanac at any time, without notice. By connecting a reader or signing in, you agree to these terms.
